Unit 5: Crisis and Change

Lesson C: The Revolution and Civil War in Russia

Activity 10: Propaganda in the U.S.S.R.

Vladimir Lenin established a government based on the ideas of Karl Marx. In a Marxist world, there would be no social classes, no private property, and no religion. While Lenin was the leader of Russia, he presented himself as a leader who would give political and economic power to the workers and peasants of Russia. Leninist propaganda, like the political cartoon shown here, often depicted an ideal Marxist vision of the world along with the hero or heroes who could make that paradise a reality.
