Activity 7: The Treaty of Versailles - A Plan for Peace
In January 1919, representatives from 32 countries met in Paris to work out the treaty to end World War I. The Treaty of Versailles, named for the palace outside Paris where it was signed, took nearly six months of bitter debate to negotiate. Many of the participants were angry about the destruction the war had caused. They wanted to punish Germany, and they produced a treaty that placed the blame for the war on Germany.
