Unit 3: Revolutions and Reaction
Lesson D: The Americas — Land of Revolutionary Opportunity
Review and Assessment
Review
The forces of the Enlightenment and nationalism created an opportunity for political revolution, independence, and the spread of democracy in the Americas. Revolutions in British America, France, and Haiti were followed by similar events in Latin America and Canada. The extent of democratic representation and equality that resulted varied throughout new countries. Colonial differences often remained, and some countries continued to struggle for stability into the 20th century.
