Activity 3: Japan Industrializes
In 1868, the Tokugawa Shogunate fell and control of Japan returned to the emperor beginning a period known as the Meiji Era. One of the responses by the Meiji Restoration was to industrialize. The Meiji Dynasty realized that in order for Japan to compete with the rest of the world, they had to industrialize. This was important so that Japan could build weapons and ships in order to fit into the modern world.
