| genocide | the deliberate and systematic destruction, in whole or in part, of an ethnic, racial, religious, or national group | 
| Manhattan Project | code name given to the American project to develop the atomic bomb during World War II; ended with the first detonation of an atomic bomb in New Mexico in 1945 | 
| V-E Day | Victory in Europe Day; holiday on May 7th or May 8th, 1945 depending on the country celebrating the end of World War II in Europe | 
| V-J Day | Victory over Japan Day; holiday on August 15th (Great Britain) and September 2nd (U.S.) celebrating the end of WWII in the Pacific |
