Manhattan Project code name given to the American project to develop the atomic bomb during World War II; ended with the first detonation of an atomic bomb in New Mexico in 1945
V-E Day Victory in Europe Day; holiday on May 7th or May 8th, 1945 depending on the country celebrating the end of World War II in Europe
V-J Day Victory over Japan Day; holiday on August 15th (Great Britain) and September 2nd (U.S.) celebrating the end of WWII in the Pacific
