Opening: Explaining Responses to Change
Think about all the events and transformations that unfolded during the 1800s - steam power, railroads, the spinning jenny, mass production, the list goes on and on. The industrial era of the 19th century brought great and exciting changes as well as more opportunities to many around the world. Yet, it was not embraced by everyone. Why not? How did those against it respond? These are the types of questions you will be exploring in this lesson.
To get started, think about your own world today. You are also living in a time of immense change and growth, just as in the 19th century. Except, instead of industrialization and imperialism, your time is more defined by a globalization that has been rapidly accelerating due to new technology. Globalization has certainly brought a lot of change. But does everyone like it? Who benefits from it and who doesn't?
