Conflict in the Muslim world led to the spread of Islam as a religion and a political force. Opportunities were available for some in the Islamic Empires, while others suffered. The Ottoman policy of toleration for non-Muslims and other cultures allowed some groups to live a stable life. Women are one example of a group in society deeply affected by life under Ottoman rule.
