Review

Prior to the 15^th century, civilizations around the world laid the foundations for the world today. Their political and economic structures began the evolution towards democracy, free enterprise, and other forms of government and economics. The major world religions were established and the roles of women were shaped. The roles of women would be challenged in the 20^th century, but what was established in the pre-modern world set the stage for how most of the world's civilizations viewed women. These pre-modern civilizations made major discoveries, which are still relevant today. In addition, the artwork created during the pre-modern era inspired civilizations around the world. By examining these aspects of civilizations, we can begin to understand how we owe so much to the pre-modern world.

Assessment

Empires in the pre-modern world laid the cultural foundations that greatly impacted world history and still impact world cultures today. The political, economic, religious, social, intellectual, and artistic characteristics of civilizations not only impacted the culture of the original civilization, but it also impacted the way that the world viewed the empire. Many of these aspects of civilizations have proven to be very influential and long-lasting in world history. Think about these examples as you complete the BCR below.
