Activity 4: Disease and Plague - The High Cost of Trade

One of the most negative costs of trade was the increasing spread of disease. Humans and animals traveling along trade routes transferred deadly diseases such as the bubonic plague. These deadly plagues impacted civilizations throughout the Common Era. "The Black Death" was the name given to a mid-14^th century outbreak of the plague that resulted in widespread death. The Black Death was carried along trade routes in Asia and the Middle East, finally arriving in Europe.
