The movement of people and the establishments of empires greatly changed the world. As people migrated to new areas and groups invaded and conquered others, ideas and other aspects of culture spread and powerful empires emerged. As people traded with each other, key cities emerged that served as centers of trade and culture. These cities, such as Constantinople, became very important and wealthy.

Assessment

Throughout history, the movement of humans has greatly impacted societies. Some humans simply migrated to new lands, while others invaded and conquered new lands. Still other movement occurred along trade routes. Regardless of the reason for human movement in history, human movement resulted in many historical effects, such as cultural diffusion as well as changes in economics, politics, and social structures. Think about these examples as you complete the BCR below.
