Assessment
The Protestant and Catholic Reformation challenged the religious policies and practices of church leaders throughout Europe. The humanism of the Renaissance was translated into criticism of the pope and the Roman Catholic Church, resulting in a variety of changes to European society. Individuals and broader reform movements brought attention to corruption and overall abuse by religious officials. The emergence of new Christian faiths and the upheaval of war contributed to the modern map of Europe. These changes would not have been possible without the use of the printing press to publish and spread reform literature. Think about these examples as you complete the BCR below.
