Lesson E: Modern Japan in a Western World

Review and Assessment

Review

Japan went through a dramatic change during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In a few decades Japan went from being an isolationist country to becoming a global power. Japan was successful in industrializing and this led to Japan building economic and military strength. Japan then used its strength to secure an empire. This led to warfare and the rise of Japan as a global power. Throughout the process Japan struggled with the impact of Western ideas on traditional Japanese ideas.
