Belief systems played an influential role in Chinese society during the Ming Empire. The Confucian philosophy and religions such as Daosim influenced politics and society. The rule of the Ming government was often supported by Confucian thought, and local religions mixed with more widespread religions to create a distinct Chinese culture.
